5L new Italian Oak Barrels are suited to Rum Wine Port or Spirits they are made of Solid Oak timbers carefully manufactured in the traditional manner using steam bent staves.

One of the timbers natural properties is its expansion and contraction depending on its moisture content timber expands when wet and shrinks when dry.

By filling your barrel with water initially you will restore its moisture content thereby swelling the individual staves to create effectively sealed joints.
