Discover Australia is a magnificent collector coin program from the historic Perth Mint. Scheduled for release between 2006 and 2008 the program comprises pure gold silver and platinum proof coins depicting Australias amazing fauna flora and landmarks. These 2006dated coins are struck from 1/2oz 1/10oz and 1/25oz of 99. 99 pure gold in proof quality. The reverse of each coin an depicts a Saltwater Crocodile Crocodylus porosus. The worlds largest reptile a saltie is capable of growing to between six and seven metres and weighing up to 1000 kilograms. Distributed across tropical northern Australia this fearsome creature inhabits fresh and saltwater and will stalk any human foolish enough to swim in its vicinity. The yeardate and The Perth Mints traditional P mintmark also appear in the design. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 the coins depict Ian RankBroadleys effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian jarrah timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australias distinctive logo. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The Perth Mint will release no more than 1000 1/2oz 2500 1/10oz and 25000 1/25oz coins worldwide.
